DECEMBER 6th & Annual Candlelight VigilS

December 6 is the annual worldwide day for people who have been touched by the death of a child. A flower may be left on this day or anytime visiting the angel monument.

Each year, candlelight vigils are held at the Angel of Hope Prayer Gardens in St. Marys and Maria Stein. During the events, attendees participate in a moment of silence, hear a featured speaker, listen to music, and are given a white flower to place at the base of the statue in memory of their child. The ceremonies are open to the public.

  • St. Marys: 6:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of December
  • Maria Stein: 7:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of December

Check the Angel of Hope Prayer Garden Facebook page for ceremonies at other locations.

Nov. 1st & 2nd: All Saints Day & All Soul’s Day

All Saints’ Day is a time to honor all saints and martyrs throughout Christian history. All Souls’ Day follows, commemorating those who have passed away, including children. It is a day for individuals and families to remember and honor their deceased loved ones. Many observe these days by attending mass, praying, singing, and visiting the Angel of Hope Prayer Garden or the graves of their loved ones and saints.

October: Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, when people light candles at 7 PM in their homes to honor babies lost to pregnancy and infant loss. This event is about creating a worldwide “wave of light” with candles on this day. Throughout the month of October, individuals are also welcome to leave flowers and/or flower petals at the Angel of Hope Prayer Garden in remembrance of their precious child.

Each year at 6:30 p.m. on October 15, the Angel of Hope Prayer Garden at St. Augustine Cemetery in Minster hosts the Wave of Light, which features an hour-long luminary lighting beginning at 7:00 p.m.

September: Suicide Awareness Month

Healing from the loss of a child to suicide is a challenging and complex journey. It demands acceptance, true forgiveness, and immense strength from parents, family, and friends. In September, those who have experienced this profound loss are encouraged to honor their loved one’s memory by doing something positive. This could include planting a tree, planting fall flower bulbs, taking a walk, or visiting the Angel of Hope Prayer Garden at the cemetery to offer a prayer for continued strength.

May: National Infertility Survival Day

Observed the Sunday before Mother’s Day, this day honors the emotional challenges and grief faced by those dealing with infertility. In St. Marys, a stainless cross and bench have been added to the Angel of Hope Prayer Garden, offering a peaceful space to find comfort on this day or anytime visiting a loved one’s grave at the cemetery.

“Lord, hear the silent cries of those who mourn the loss of their ability to bear children. Comfort their hearts and grant them peace as they navigate this difficult journey.”

Birthday, Anniversary & Special dates

May the Angel of Hope Prayer Garden offer a peaceful space for individuals to reflect on the lives of loved ones, and may it provide the gift of hope, comfort, and strength to carry on.  May it inspire us to live life with loving and giving hearts, honoring the memory of a child and all those who have gone before us.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
