DEDICATION

The Angel of Hope Prayer Garden at St. Augustine Cemetery stands as a profound symbol of generosity, remembrance, and the unwavering dedication of individuals committed to bringing hope and healing to our community. This sanctuary was made possible by Anna Sampson Katterhenry and her anonymous benefactor, whose shared vision was to create a place of comfort and solace for grieving families. Their generosity, combined with the countless hours of labor contributed by dedicated contractors and volunteers transformed this vision into reality. Their passion for serving others and commitment to this project have created a legacy for the St. Augustine parish and cemetery.

Dedication Ceremony

On June 9, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., the Angel of Hope Committee unveiled and dedicated the Angel of Hope at St. Augustine Cemetery, West First Street, Minster, Ohio. This ceremony welcomed all parents, grandparents, and family members who have experienced the loss of a child, whether before or after birth, and regardless of the child’s age. The angel statue stands as a tribute to all children gone too soon and serves as a place of hope and healing for families and friends navigating grief.

The dedication ceremony was a heartfelt and moving event, attended by parish members, community leaders, and families who have faced the pain of losing a child. The ceremony began with the St. Augustine Men’s Choir performing “Be Still My Soul” as members of the St. Gasper del Bufalo Assembly led honored guests and speakers to the Angel of Hope monument.

The event featured several speakers, including Deacon Roger Klosterman, who offered a welcome and opening prayer. Lead donor and Angel of Hope Prayer Garden administrator, Anna Katterhenry, shared her personal journey and the motivation behind bringing this angel of solace to the community. Lisa Johnson, representing author Richard Paul Evans, traveled from Utah to participate, and Linda Kuenning from Stephen Ministries provided information on local bereavement resources and support.

Guest speakers Shelly and Scott Hogenkamp represented their son, Jackson, and spoke on behalf of all parents, families, and friends who have ever grieved the loss of a child. Their heartfelt words were followed by a beautiful flower procession. Each attendee received a white flower symbolizing their loved one, which they placed at the base of the angel while the St. Augustine Men’s Choir sang “Angels Watching Over Me.”

The ceremony concluded with a prayer of dedication and blessing by Father Mark Hoying, followed by closing remarks from Anna Katterhenry. The St. Gasper del Bufalo Assembly led the procession’s conclusion as the St. Augustine Men’s Choir sang “Softly & Tenderly,” bringing the ceremony to a gentle and reflective close.

The Angel of Hope Prayer Garden stands as a place of remembrance, healing, and peace, eternally honoring the lives of children gone too soon and offering solace to those who grieve.
